The mission of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is to protect and preserve agriculture, environment, and natural resources through effective regulatory services, natural resource conservation, and financial and technical assistance. DANR treats every person as a customer and maintains a high level of integrity through transparent government services and science-based decision making.


Responsibilities
As part of the Waste Management Program, implement waste management regulatory policies to protect human health and the environment.
Conduct inspections at permitted solid waste facilities and asbestos abatement projects.
Perform field investigations at waste-related facilities and ensure asbestos and building demolition compliance.
Ensure asbestos worker certification compliance and audit asbestos training courses.
Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, and written correspondence.
Maintain and organize environmental databases and analyze environmental data.
Collect environmental samples and related measurements and information.
Provide technical information and assistance to colleagues, other state and federal agencies, and the public with a focus on customer service.

QualificationsThe Ideal Candidate Will Have
A 4-year degree in environmental or physical sciences, and a strong desire to learn, solve problems, and serve the citizens of South Dakota. A valid driver’s license is required.

Knowledge of environmental, physical and chemical principles and processes.
Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in an organized and timely manner.
Ability to learn and willingness to be challenged.
Ability to set goals and work independently or in a team setting to achieve them.
Self-motivation, organization, and ability to communicate with the public.
Ability to work in collaborative team environments.
