Job Description
Peace Corps is seeking Environmental Protection and Adaptation Specialists to support Local Government Units and state universities in the Philippines. Volunteers will address environmental issues, enhance community resilience, and promote sustainable development through assessments, research, and training activities. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in environmental management or disaster risk reduction. This is a full-time position based in the Philippines.
Job Description
The City/Municipal Local Government Units and State Universities in the Philippines has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Environmental Protection and Adaptation Specialists. In response to emerging environmental issues, the Philippines government launched nation-wide efforts to further positive environment outcomes by building the adaptive capacities of women and men in their communities, increasing the resilience of vulnerable sectors and natural ecosystems to environmental degradation, and optimizing mitigation opportunities towards sustainable development. The Local Government Units (LGUs) and state universities seek Peace Corps Response Volunteers to assist in coordinating with other relevant offices and community partners to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of implementing these activities.
The specific roles and responsibilities of the Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) will depend on his/her specific technical expertise and in consideration of the assessed needs of various LGUs and state universities. The PCRV will work closely with the designated staff and other key individuals with activities such as, but not limited, to assist in the assessment of environmental issues, conduct research and other related data gathering activities, and conducting trainings, workshops, conferences, fora, orientation, seminars, symposiums, etc. Overall, this partnership seeks to highlight the promotion of a collective and inclusive approach towards a comprehensive and integrated environmental framework.
Required Skills
Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria:
• BA/BS in any field relevant to environmental management and/or disaster management
• Two or more years of experience in Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, and/or Disaster Risk Reduction
• Specialized experience in any of the following, depending on the role: Disaster Risk Reduction, Solid Waste Management, Water Management, Policy Implementation.
