About the position
Wood is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team of professionals supporting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) project work. This dynamic team, comprising over 50 individuals, focuses on natural and cultural resources and NEPA compliance. They collaborate regionally and with other Wood planners, scientists, and engineers to meet client needs for impact analysis, permitting, and mitigation/restoration. The team fosters a positive work environment that encourages multi-disciplinary collaboration, valuing each member and providing opportunities for growth. This role is ideal for individuals with an understanding of the NEPA process, technical writing skills, a strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in career advancement and working with a diverse team of professionals, including planners, biologists, NEPA specialists, environmental permitting specialists, and other consulting/engineering disciplines. The preferred candidate will be a recent college graduate or possess up to 5 years of consulting experience focused on developing NEPA documents. The successful candidate will have the chance to work on NEPA environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, related technical studies, and similar impact assessment documentation for various clients. Growth opportunities include becoming a Subject Matter Expert, developing client relationships, and managing tasks/projects. The team is based in the Mississippi Valley Region with staff in St. Louis, Jefferson City, Louisville, Lexington, Dayton, and Nashville offices, and is currently operating primarily remotely. Future work arrangements are expected to be a mix of remote, hybrid, and in-office opportunities. Remote employees must be willing to travel to offices for occasional in-person meetings. Wood invites qualified applicants with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in environmental science, planning, or an equivalent discipline, along with 3-5 years of direct work experience, to apply.

BS degree in environmental science, planning, geography, natural science, environmental engineering, or an equivalent discipline3-5 years of applicable experience with NEPA documentation including research and writing of EISs, Environmental Assessments, and CEs, project descriptions, project alternatives, or supporting technical studies/analyses of aesthetics/visual, natural resources, air quality, greenhouse gas, geology and soils, hydrology and water quality, land use and planning, socioeconomics, or cumulative impactsExcellent writing and oral communication skillsAbility to produce concise documents that meet required standardsValid driver’s license and good driving record for travel within the central USMust pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policyNice-to-haves
