The role involves preparing and submitting technical reports and permits for power and renewable energy projects. GPD is looking to hire a full time, Environmental Permitting Specialist with an interest in supporting the preparation and submission of technical reports and permitting documents for power and renewable energy projects. This position is an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional who possess a high level of self-motivation and demonstrate enthusiastic leadership. This position provides an opportunity to lead the efforts of the permitting process for our power industry projects from start to finish.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
• B.S./B.A. degree in natural science field of study
• 5+ years’ work experience with environmental permitting of construction projects with land and water impacts in the State of Ohio.
• Experience preparing and submitting permit applications through federal and state agencies: NEPA compliance, Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance, and Clean Water Act (CWA) permitting, as well as other Ohio-specific environmental policies.
• Experience with managing permitting and environmental impact analysis documents and associated technical studies and oversight on high voltage electric transmission lines, renewables or other linear infrastructure a plus.
• Wetland delineation field experience a plus
• Experience with technical report writing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently
Day-to-day Responsibilities
• Conduct reviews of proposed electrical substation and transmission line projects to determine environmental issues, permit requirements, and government required environmental reviews needed for permits in Ohio.
• Provide technical guidance on mitigation strategies and environmental best practices.
• Consulting with clients regarding ecological considerations for site development including wetland and stream permitting options and T&E species.
• Lead environmental compliance filing for projects under development and/or construction.
• Preparing technical reports and permit applications for regulatory approvals under the Clean Water Act 401/404 and associated state permitting programs, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other relevant natural resource planning/permitting disciplines. Track and report on permitting timelines, requirements, and compliance milestones.
• Interpret environmental permits and regulations to ensure that compliance dates and requirements are met.
• Maintain excellent communication with project managers, clients, employees, permitting agencies and subcontractors.
• Communicate with regulatory agency representatives, negotiate permit conditions, represent company during regulatory inspections, and other regulatory meetings.
