Job Description

The Department of Justice is seeking an Environmental Management Program Specialist in Pine Knot, KY. The role involves developing and implementing environmental management programs related to energy, transportation, and compliance with various environmental laws. Responsibilities include managing environmental systems, setting agency objectives, analyzing data, and providing expertise on natural resources. The position also includes correctional responsibilities to ensure institutional security.
As an Environmental Management Program Specialist, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing a comprehensive environmental management program for the Bureau of Prisons. This program encompasses key areas such as:

Executive Order (EO) 13423 Acquisition (formerly Buying Green) Chemical Management Cleanup Electronics Stewardship Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Energy Management Environmental Compliance High Performance Buildings Natural Resources Management National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Pollution Prevention Sustainability Initiatives Transportation Management Your responsibilities will include:

Ensuring that environmental management systems (EMS) are utilized as the primary approach to manage environmental aspects of agency operations, particularly in energy and transportation. Establishing agency objectives and targets to fulfill the mandates of EO 13423. Gathering, analyzing, and reporting data to track performance in the implementation of national environmental initiatives. Providing expertise to develop a robust national natural resources program, focusing on managing endangered species, wetlands, erosion control, habitat development, native landscaping, and wildlife conservation. Assisting with compliance relevant to the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Federal Insecticide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), and various Executive Orders. Supporting second-party certifications at Bureau of Prisons facilities related to environmental management. Please note that this role also involves correctional responsibilities to ensure the security of the institution, which take priority alongside your environmental duties.
