Job Description

Action Environmental is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist for its Hanceville, AL location. The role involves providing EHS support to field operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, promoting safety culture, conducting audits, and delivering training. Candidates should have 3-5 years of EHS experience and knowledge of relevant regulations. A high school diploma is required, with a preference for a degree in occupational safety or related fields.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will serve as the safety representative, providing direct EHS support to field operations and management for our North Alabama and Tennessee Branches and customer site locations. This role is responsible for fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting the implementation of company and client safety programs, and promoting continuous improvement in all aspects of health and safety performance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Support daily field operations by promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with company safety expectations


Demonstrates a thorough understanding of applicable EPA, OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations applicable to environmental, industrial, and remediation activities


Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of company and client-specific EHS policies, procedures, and programs


Conduct routine field audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, client requirements, and company policies


Identify, document, and help mitigate unsafe conditions or behaviors through direct engagement with employees and supervision


Participates in incident investigations and assists with the development of corrective actions and the completion of reports as required


Track, maintain, and analyze site-specific safety metrics, incident statistics, and leading indicators to support continuous improvement


Contribute to the preparation and review of project-specific health and safety plans (HASPs), job hazard analysis plans (JHAs), work permits, and risk assessments


Represent the company professionally during client or regulatory audits, inspections, and meetings


Generate safety reports and summaries for both internal management and client representatives, as needed


Deliver EHS training, including safety orientations, toolbox talks, task-specific instruction, and compliance-based training


Maintain and manage training records to ensure employee compliance with safety training requirements


Attend operational meetings to address safety concerns and provide recommendations


Respond to and provide EHS support to emergencies and other incidents


Manage exposure monitoring programs, including air, noise, and dust monitoring for activities such as soil excavation, demolition, and decontamination


Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS





High School education or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in occupational safety & health or a related field preferred


Minimum 3–5 years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in industrial, environmental remediation, and mining settings


Comprehensive knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DOT, and MSHA regulations


Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills


Experience delivering training;
certifications such as OSHA 501/511, HAZWOPER, and MSHA Part 46 and 48 are preferred




Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


Ability to obtain medical clearance and respiratory protection certification, as required


Capable of performing physical tasks, including walking, climbing, lifting more than five pounds, and wearing required PPE


Ability to travel to branch locations and customer sites as needed
