Job Description The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking individuals to join the Nature Preserves and Programs Team as part-time Environmental Educators for the Environmental Education Programs & Support (EEPS) Office. This position is responsible for environmental education program delivery throughout the City of Raleigh. The Nature Preserves and Program Team is part of the City's Natural Resources Unit, which is devoted to connecting people and nature through experiences, conservation, and education.

Environmental Educators report to the EEPS Assistant Manager, located in Fred Fletcher Park in Raleigh, NC. This position requires regular travel to program site locations throughout the city. Diverse views and experiences make us strong.

Duties and Responsibilities Deliver hands-on, grade-specific environmental education programs to school groups at a variety of City of Raleigh parks and on school campuses, primarily outdoors.

Programs have been carefully designed to align with North Carolina learning standards. Program curriculum and materials are provided. Provide excellent customer service when greeting and interacting with school groups at City of Raleigh parks.

Facilitate hands-on, grade-specific nature programs for school groups at City of Raleigh parks and on school campuses. Observe necessary precautions to ensure safety of all program participants; render first aid in case of minor injury. Communicate program and/or site safety concerns to management.

Typical Qualifications Education: A high school degree is required; additional training (such as college degree or enrollment in a degree-seeking program) in elementary education, environmental education, environmental science, or related area is beneficial. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: First Aid/CPR - provided upon hire. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Additional Information Strong desire to work with elementary-age students, sharing with them knowledge and enthusiasm about the natural world. Excellent verbal skills and comfort leading environmental education programs for students and their teachers in outdoor settings. Willingness to work with students from a variety of backgrounds.

Effective communication skills and dedication to providing positive customer service. Access to reliable transportation allowing travel to and from City of Raleigh parks and Wake County schools. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and walk at least one mile regularly.

Ability to work outdoors with exposure to heat, cold, and light rain. Ability to work weekdays from approximately 9:00 am through 1:30 pm, at least 2 days per week is required. Exact work schedule can be adjusted to accommodate anticipated employee needs.

This is a part-time position offering up to 999 hours per year. Minimum hours are not guaranteed.
