Environmental Planner

Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. (MFA) is seeking a full-time Environmental Planner with the flexibility to work out of any of our offices. As our Environmental Planner, you will manage diverse projects, primarily in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, collaborating with clients and stakeholders. Your project management expertise, coupled with a passion for land use and environmental planning will drive successful outcomes. As an Environmental Planner, you will be involved in all aspects of project execution, from analysis, report and proposal writing to comprehensive project management. This is an opportunity to work on an array of different projects, as the prime contact for clients, shaping the future of communities and making a tangible impact.

As an Environmental Planner, you will...

Lead or support projects that span community development, land use planning, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance. From initial planning to final deliverables, you'll oversee the development of environmental documents, including actions requiring NEPA or SEPA review and federal, state, and local permitting.

Acting as the primary contact for clients, you'll guide projects to successful outcomes by balancing technical expertise with client needs. Collaboration will be key as you work closely with interdisciplinary teams to solve complex challenges, develop strategies, and maintain compliance with applicable regulations. You'll also engage with stakeholders and regulatory agencies to secure permits and approvals, fostering strong relationships throughout the process.

To thrive in this role, you must have...
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Natural Resources, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 5+ years of professional experience in environmental planning, permitting, or land use planning.
• Familiarity with Washington's Growth Management Act (GMA), Shoreline Management Act (SMA) and other State and local regulations; experience with Oregon land use laws is a plus.
• Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and preparing permit applications.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to prepare and present technical reports.
• Growing knowledge of land use planning principles, environmental regulations, and community development strategies.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite; GIS or similar tools a plus.
• AICP certification or desire to achieve one is a plus!

Compensation Range: $82,000 to $111,000 a year
