Jacobs is seeking an Engineering Department Manager for its Energy and Power team in Cary, NC. This role involves managing approximately 100 engineers across various disciplines to deliver energy design projects, including power generation and renewable energy solutions. Your impact
The energy industry is undergoing rapid and dramatic changes, transforming the utility landscape to enhance reliability and sustainability. In response, Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle the complexities of energy resiliency and decarbonization to deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future. We are seeking a department manager for our Energy and Power engineering design staff across multiple disciplines that include electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, Instrumentation and controls engineering, civil engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and more. In this role, you will manage a team of approximately 100 engineers and designers located in multiple offices across North America supporting a diverse mix of district energy and industrial energy design projects that include power generation, substations, microgrids, renewables, energy storage and much more. Your team will routinely engage with our clients, evaluate their energy needs, develop concept-level plans and solutions, then take these through detailed design to provide for full execution of the solution. We offer and deliver “end to end” life-cycle services that include needs assessment, master planning, options analysis, detailed design, construction administration, startup, commissioning and operation.
As engineering manager, you will be actively engaged projects while also managing your staff and coordinating manpower resources for the broader portfolio of energy and power projects. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, opportunity and inclusion. You will be accountable for developing and implementing efficient work processes, overseeing the successful execution of quality assurance/quality control and managing your teams to achieve successful outcomes by consistently delivering projects on time and on budget. This role will require a strong team-player attitude with ability to consistently demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, mutual respect and accountability to others. Must be able to review the work of others for accuracy, completeness and interact to obtain any needed clarifications.
Demonstrated abilities include personnel management and a broad understanding of engineering sciences and the consulting industry. Experience in consulting, design, design management and project management will be highly regarded, as will experience in Owner’s Engineer roles or contract management, and advisory (technical advisor/due diligence) roles as well as strategic project development experience.
Your primary responsibilities will focus upon managing your team to provide advisory and design solutions for energy project development and technical delivery. You will also participate in recruitment activities, talent acquisition and technical/professional development of staff to grow the Energy and Power business. You will collaborate with our Client Account Managers and sales professionals on pursuits of strategic importance to the firm and oversee the development of work plans, design schedules and design fee estimates for engineering design and consulting projects. You’ll be expected to possess highly collaborative and sophisticated communication and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges and manage “up and out” while supporting large teams responsible for the daily details of project delivery.

Here's what you'll need
• Bachelor's or Advanced Engineering Degree
• Professional Engineering License
• Proven ability to engage with clients, develop relationships and win work, and then deliver innovative solutions providing value to both the client and provider
• Proven ability to manage and develop engineering personnel
• Ability to work independently on a large array of engineering management and design tasks while providing guidance and mentorship to staff
• Strong communication and technical writing skills
Other Highly Regarded Qualifications Include Prior Experience With
• At least 15 years of design and consulting experience working with clients, service providers, contractors, OEMs, Owner/Developers, Lenders and/or regulators in the energy field
• Project experience related to planning and/or design for
• Power generation projects exceeding 10MW capacity
• MV power distribution systems and microgrids
• HV or MV Substations
• Renewable energy projects including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and other technologies
• Energy storage systems
• Protection and Control, SCADA or power system automation
• Campus utility master planning or decarbonization/climate response planning
• Cogeneration or combined heat and power systems
• Thermal utility plants and distribution systems (steam, hot water, chilled water)

151,400.00
Posted Salary Range Upper
200,000.00

The base salary range for this position is $151,400.00 to $200,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
