Job Description
Insight Global is seeking an Energy Engineer in Saukville, WI, to enhance energy performance in industrial systems. Responsibilities include identifying energy conservation measures, executing energy assessments, collaborating with teams, and optimizing utility usage. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in manufacturing. The engineer will also lead training programs and support the company's certified energy management system.
The Energy Engineer provides technical expertise and field-based support for energy performance improvement across plant utilities and industrial systems. This role is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and implementing Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), supporting an energy management system that is certified to the ISO 50001 standard, and optimizing systems such as process heating, compressed air, dust collection, pumps, and fans, among others. Working collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, the Energy Engineer leverages data from submetering and automation systems to deliver measurable energy and cost savings. The position requires hands-on problem-solving, strong project execution skills, and a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and recommend energy savings strategies to achieve more energy-efficient operation.
Lead and execute energy assessments and audits across industrials systems and processes.
Organize and execute energy events and energy treasure hunts
Collaborate closely with end-users to build strong relationships and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
Support tracking, analyzing and reporting the company's utility usage and cost
Establish universal utility usage tracking and benchmarks for each plant to guide performance improvements.
Design and deliver training programs to build employee awareness of energy management standards, operational controls, and best practices for improving energy performance in their respective areas.
Lead multiple projects with a variety of teams internally and external to Charter with significant impacts to multiple areas.
Assist in maintaining Charter Steels Certified Energy Management System (EnMS)
Research emerging technologies and assess the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of alternative or renewable energy solutions.
Collaborate with state and federal agencies to leverage training, funding, and other resources to enhance energy efficiency efforts.
Comply with all Environmental, Quality, Energy, and Safety Management System procedures and standards.

Building organization-wide awareness and accountability for energy performance, beyond the energy team

Leveraging the management system for processes and procedures to ensure lasting performance gains

Ensuring energy goals support organizational priorities such as cost reduction, growth, and sustainability commitments
Ensure accurate monitoring and reporting systems
Achieving measurable energy savings while aligning with financial targets and capital budget constraints
Identifying, evaluating, and implementing innovative energy solutions that provide competitive advantages.

Experience overseeing energy consumption and utility costs for an organization
Four years experience working on energy conservation projects and Energy Management Systems certified to the ISO 50001 standard
Prior experience in Continuous Improvement and/or Six Sigma projects.
Experience with steel mill operations and maintenance.
Skilled in a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
Bachelors degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related degree.
Three years experience working on energy conservation projects and Energy Management Systems certified to the ISO 50001 standard
Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical industrial systems, such as: Thermal Processes, Compressed Air, Dust Collection, Air Make-up units, Pumps and Fans.
Ability to understand/read utility bills, engineering drawings and process diagrams.
Project Management skills in leading large multiple discipline projects.
Analytical skills in analyzing data and providing solutions.
Effective leader with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in the advanced features of Microsoft Office products.
