Job Description

Invenergy is seeking an Operations Electrical Engineer III in Chicago, IL, to support the onboarding of new wind, solar, and battery storage projects. Responsibilities include coordinating with various teams to ensure electrical readiness, reviewing electrical documentation, and developing maintenance plans. Candidates should have a BS in Electrical Engineering, 3-5 years of experience, and familiarity with electrical systems. Some travel is required.

Job Description

Position Overview

As an Operations Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for supporting the onboarding of new wind, solar, and battery storage projects from construction into the operations phase of the project.

Responsibilities



Coordinate with Construction, Project Management, Asset Management, Site Operations, and Operations Engineering to identify and close electrical readiness gaps prior to commercial operations.Serve as the Operations Electrical Engineering owner for all activities related to onboarding new projects.Review Arc Flash and electrical system studies for completeness and to identify any operational impacts.Perform personal protective ground sizing calculations, supporting the procurement of PPE for site O&M teamsSupport the development of site-specific switching and clearance procedures for de-energizing and re-energizing substation and collection system equipment.Review and organize as-built electrical documentation, including one-lines, schematics, equipment manuals, relay settings, test reports, studies, bills of material, and spare parts information.Review commissioning and acceptance test results for major electrical equipment and identify abnormal results, missing records, or follow-up actions needed before operational handoff.Support development of the initial site electrical maintenance plan, including recommended inspection/test intervals, required records, contractor support needs, and PowerDB setup where applicable.Coordinate with NERC Compliance, Operations, and site teams to ensure applicable compliance evidence, maintenance records, relay settings, and operating documentation are complete and accessible.Participate in occasional site visits to evaluate for operational readiness.May serve as the assigned Balance of Plant (BOP) engineer for a limited number of sites, providing day-to-day technical support, forced outage response, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

BS in Electrical Engineering or similar major3-5+ years of work experienceSubstation, collection system, and major electrical equipment familiarityAbility to read and interpret electrical schematicsStrong oral and written communication skillsSome travel is require d (Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Skills

Strong knowledge of three-phase power systems, high voltage electrical equipment. Basic understanding of protective relaying concepts. Experience supporting design, construction, commissioning, or turnover of utility-scale renewable energy projects.Switching, clearance, LOTO, and grounding procedure experienceExperience preparing or reviewing arc flash studies, electrical system studies, or personal protective grounding calculations.Working knowledge of NESC, NERC and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes;Experience with renewable generation systems (wind turbines, solar panels/inverters, battery storage) and associated control systems.

Base Pay

$105,000.00 - $130,000.00 USD Annual

Bonus: 20% - 30%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
