Randstad is seeking an EHS Manager in Deerfield, IL, to support sustainability initiatives and Corporate Responsibility goals. The role involves developing and implementing sustainability projects, collaborating with various segments, and ensuring compliance with governance and legislative requirements. The position requires an associate degree and offers a contract role with pay between $75 to $85 per hour, working from 8 AM to 4 PM.
About the position

The EHS Manager will provide comprehensive sustainability support for a designated business segment, managing emerging Corporate Responsibility (CR) and Sustainability needs. This role focuses on both internal and external sustainability requirements, deploying the company's Global Corporate Responsibility Goals, and supporting operational improvements and product/service sustainability. Collaboration, adaptability, and a proactive approach are essential for success in this role. The position is based in Deerfield, Illinois, and is classified as a contract role with a pay range of $75 to $85 per hour. The working hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM, and the role requires an associate degree as a minimum educational qualification. In this role, the EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and quantifying the benefits of sustainability projects to meet corporate responsibility goals. They will partner with various segments to identify projects that promote the environmental attributes of operations, products, and services, thereby gaining a competitive advantage. The manager will leverage and implement best practices in sustainability across sites or products, collaborating with other segment sustainability leads. They will also develop materials to communicate sustainability progress in collaboration with business, communications, and legal partners. The EHS Manager will represent the segment in delivering information on governance, customer, and legislative requirements to generate business value and maintain compliance. They will work with segment R&D to influence the design of more sustainable products and packaging, educate and raise awareness internally and externally about Corporate Responsibility Goals, and promote understanding and integration of sustainability initiatives across all business areas and functions. Additionally, they will incorporate sustainability issues into EHS&S and other functions' management systems, supporting existing certification efforts such as ISO14001 and SGE21. Collaboration with the Corporate EHS&S team will be essential to develop materials for internal and external stakeholders on CR/sustainability issues, including annual CR reports, communications, performance statements, and award applications. The EHS Manager will support and lead CR/sustainability initiatives that align with the company strategy and maintain knowledge and a network to provide up-to-date advice on competitors or best practices in sustainability. They will also collaborate with the team to collect relevant data/information from internal and external sources to enhance sustainability data offerings.

Responsibilities

Requirements
• Primary degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

• Willingness to undertake up to 20% regional travel and occasional global travel.
,
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and local language as needed.
,
• 7+ years in Sustainability/Corporate Responsibility.
,
• 5+ years within the medical devices or pharma industry or similar.
,
• Experience at a management level.
,
• Background in environmental or sustainability management/engineering.
,
• Ability to lead and influence at all levels, providing direction to senior managers, directors, and VPs.
,
• Understanding of cultural differences across EMEA countries.

Nice-to-haves
• Representing the company at medical device and cross-industry forums, handling NGOs with diplomacy and care.
,
• Knowledge of EU policy and legislation in environmental and product stewardship, and understanding of EU decision-making processes.
,
• Qualified EMS auditor and/or experience in conducting environmental audits including CSR supplier audits.
,
• Experience in other areas of EHS - NEBOSH, Dip Occ Hygiene or other H&S qualifications.
