About the position

The Ecologist position at the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment involves conducting research and investigations to identify and mitigate sources of pollutants affecting the environment and public health. The role requires a strong understanding of ecological principles and pollution control laws, as well as the ability to analyze environmental data and communicate findings effectively.

Responsibilities
• Collect, synthesize, and analyze data from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, and soil or water samples.

• Research sources of pollution to determine their effects on the environment and develop methods for pollution abatement.

• Monitor environmental impacts of development activities.
,
• Develop methods to minimize the environmental impact of production processes.
,
• Prepare charts or graphs from data samples and summarize the environmental relevance of the data.
,
• Analyze data for validity, quality, and scientific significance, interpreting correlations between human activities and environmental effects.
,
• Communicate scientific and technical information through various formats including oral briefings and written documents.
,
• Design and direct studies to obtain technical environmental information about planned projects.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in environmental or natural science or a related field.

• Two years of experience in environmental control or a related area.

• Mid-level GPS analysis skills.

Nice-to-haves
• Working knowledge of water quality, habitat, phytoplankton, macroinvertebrate, and fish sample collection.

• Ability to evaluate water quality and biological data for standards determination.

• Working knowledge of statistical analyses and water chemistry interactions.
,
• Ability to prepare and present reports regarding activities and testing results.
,
• General knowledge of state and federal regulations governing water quality.
