Job Description

Memorial University is seeking a Director of Physical Infrastructure and Sustainability to lead facilities planning, design, engineering, and sustainability initiatives. The role involves managing capital projects, collaborating with teams, and promoting sustainability within the university. Candidates should have strong leadership, project management skills, and relevant experience in engineering or architecture. This full-time position is located in St. John's, NL, Canada.
Memorial University seeks a strategic leader for the role of Director, Physical Infrastructure and Sustainability. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Facilities leadership team, responsible for facilities planning, design, engineering, renewal, and sustainability.

The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the planning, design, and construction of university major and minor capital projects, as well as managing the multi-year, multi-million-dollar capital deferred renewal program.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support a multi-disciplined team of professionals with a strong commitment to their success and development;
• Holds accountability for the capital project life cycle and space management program;
• Champions sustainability and climate action and strategic planning;
• Guides the development and implementation of programs and policies for sustainability, space planning, and infrastructure requirements of the university;
• Collaborates with consultants and contractors;
• Identifies funding opportunities and develops proposals, budgets, and presentations on the sustainable landscape and infrastructure planning and development.
Requirements
• A strategic leader with superb communication and negotiating skills who, through collaboration and creativity, is able to solve problems and build strong relationships internal and external to the university;
• A clear commitment to sustainability as a leader of Memorial's sustainability culture;
• Highly motivated and an experienced professional with a proven track record of success in leading major capital projects, preferably in large complex organizations;
• Typically, this knowledge and experience is developed through education and professional certification in engineering or architecture; or extensive experience in a comparable role;
• Significant project management skills, sound knowledge of construction and the construction industry, experience with public tendering and the public procurement act, and have experience managing a team of professionals;
• Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador is required;
• Knowledge of and experience working with building fire and accessibility codes are considered an asset.
