As a hands-on leader, you'll lay the foundation for a high-performing design team while producing permit-ready packages for high-impact energy and electrification projects. Key Responsibilities
• Design & Drafting (Initial Phase)
• Develop permit-ready CAD drawings for EV charging, BESS, depot electrification, and utility upgrades.
• Draft site layouts, trenching/conduit plans, utility service diagrams, and electrical details.
• Overlay survey, GIS, Google Earth, and utility data into comprehensive drawing packages.
• System & Standards Development
• Build scalable CAD templates and layout libraries.
• Establish CAD standards, file structures, and quality control systems.
• Create jurisdictional drawing checklists for both Canadian and U.S. permitting.
• Cross-Functional Execution
• Work closely with PMs and engineers to finalize design packages for construction and permits.
• Align designs with Hydro One, ESA, NEC, and other regional utility/AHJ requirements.
• Support procurement, permitting, and construction with integrated design deliverables.
• Leadership & Team Building
• Lead the internal design function from inception to scale.
• Mentor and onboard junior designers and CAD techs.
• Grow team capacity to deliver 25+ projects per quarter with consistent quality and speed.
Qualifications
• Must-Have
• 6-10+ years of CAD experience in EV, BESS, solar, utility, or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and experience with conduit layouts and electrical site planning.
• Ability to interpret redlines, trenching plans, surveys, and single-line diagrams.
• Experience coordinating designs for permit and construction in Canadian and/or U.S. jurisdictions.
• Preferred
• Civil 3D, Revit, and Bluebeam familiarity.
• Previous design leadership or mentorship experience.
• EPC/EPCM or design-build firm experience.
• Understanding of CSA, NEC, ESA, and cross-border permitting standards.

Schedule
