Job Summary
Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) seeks a part-time Adjunct Faculty member to teach courses in Climate Policy and Action during the 2026–27 academic year. The Climate Policy and Action sequence examines climate change through science, policy, governance, equity, and implementation frameworks, with emphasis on applied solutions at local, state, national, and global levels. Courses include: Climate Policy and Action: Science and Policy Basics introduces the scientific foundations of climate change alongside the social, political, and economic systems that shape greenhouse gas emissions and climate governance. Students explore mitigation and adaptation strategies, environmental justice impacts, and frameworks for integrating science into multi-level public policy. Climate Policy and Action: Policy Analysis and Advocacy builds on this foundation by evaluating climate policies and technologies across jurisdictions. Students analyze policy effectiveness, assess stakeholder and power dynamics, and develop skills in policy research, advocacy strategy, and campaign design. Climate Policy and Action: Building Community Resilience focuses on community resilience in the Pacific Northwest, examining the unequal impacts of climate change on frontline rural, coastal, and urban communities. Through seminars and applied projects, students explore governmental and non-governmental approaches to climate adaptation, with opportunities to collaborate with community partners. This three-quarter, quarter-time position, requires in-person instruction with some asynchronous online components. Courses are designed for students in professional and continuing education pathways and integrate rigorous academic inquiry with practical, real-world application. Each applicant should submit a cover letter that explicitly addresses the various components of this position description and specifies whether the candidate is applying to teach one or more quarters. Successful applicants should demonstrate how they meet the Minimum and Preferred Qualifications.
