Job Description
The Climate Change Officer role at West Oxfordshire District Council involves leading climate action projects aimed at achieving net zero and enhancing climate resilience. It is an exciting time to be working in Climate as we strive to achieve to net zero and climate resilience. Oxfordshire is at the forefront of this sea of change and continues to pioneer cutting edge climate projects. We have many UK firsts, like the hyper local area energy plan and carbon sequestration research, and have an excellent track record in performance, as reflected in our Climate Scorecard ratings.
We are working hard to drive down the Council’s carbon footprint and accelerate carbon reduction, carbon sequestration and climate resilience across Oxfordshire. We operate across multiple scales from strategic energy projects to facilitating grassroots, community initiatives, and across sectors. including energy, building decarbonisation, and green transport. We are also developing our approaches to carbon offsetting and climate adaptation.

Who we are looking for…
This is an exceptional opportunity to join us as a Climate Change Officer.
We are looking for a committed and highly competent officer to spearhead climate action. In leading on challenging climate projects, you will need to work well under pressure and prioritise activities.
You will have sound technical knowledge and initiative to develop innovative solutions that are operationally successful and financially viable.
You will have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy collaborating with others to deliver a myriad of climate projects.
You will need…
• A degree or qualification equivalent to a degree in climate change, sustainability, or environment, and relevant experience of five years.
• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent to grade C/4 or higher
• Experience of working flexibly as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders
• Experience of continuously improving services
• Ability to remain calm and confident in challenging environments
