Interior Health Authority is seeking a Climate Action Implementation Coordinator student for a 16-week internship in Kelowna, BC. The role involves coordinating the Climate Change and Health Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment, engaging with community partners, and developing implementation plans across health service delivery areas. Interior Health (IH) is seeking a dynamic Climate Action Implementation Coordinator student to join the Office of the Chief Medical Health Officer, Population and Public Health. This role will be based out of Kelowna, B.C. and the position is for approximately 16 weeks (May to August).

What will you work on?

The Climate Action Implementation Coordinator (Coordinator) will coordinate the planning and implementation of Interior Health's (IH) first Climate Change and Health Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment (CCHVAA) across the IH region.

Key Areas Of Responsibility
• Coordination will include supporting CCHVAA engagement with community partners in the Kootenay Boundary (KB), the pilot Health Service Delivery Area (HSDA), and translating lessons learned from this area into project plans for the other HSDAs in IH, for future implementation.
• Specific responsibilities include:
• Training the KB project group on the CCHVAA engagement framework.
• Facilitating and participating in engagement activities for the KB pilot
• Identifying and documenting lessons learned from the KB pilot.
• Prioritizing the other HSDAs (Thompson Cariboo Shuswap, Okanagan, and East Kootenay) for future CCHVAA implementation.
• Developing implementation plans for the other HSDA.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Impact of Role: The Coordinator will provide dedicated capacity to implement the CCHVAA, which is an IH commitment to the provincial Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy. The work of the Coordinator will also strengthen relationships with community partners, including rural and Indigenous communities, for the purpose of preparing communities for climate-related emergencies and building community resilience to climate change. By advocating for population groups at highest risk from climate change hazards, the Coordinator will also contribute to advancing health equity.
