GRID Alternatives is seeking a Central Temp Installer for on-site solar installation projects in Los Angeles, CA. Our team-oriented, passionate, and results-driven GRID Alternatives team is seeking paid solar construction job trainees to assist with solar (PV) installations (95% of time) on prevailing wage commercial projects in Los Angeles.
• *Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

The Opportunity…

GRID Alternatives affiliates are installing on a number of commercial projects in the counties of Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange in California. The paid training opportunity in this announcement is a paid position to gain authentic solar work experience, a reference, potential corporate and nonprofit networking opportunities, and gain valuable technical and professional work skills. The projected start date for these installation projects, The Carlton at 5407 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles 90062.
• Activities for this paid training opportunity will include, but are not limited to:
• Assist Construction crews with installing solar electric systems.
• Assist Construction crews with staging, loading, and unloading equipment, including packing and unpacking parts, boxes, and bins from trucks/vans/trailers before and after installation projects.
• Assist Construction crews with receiving equipment and deliveries and picking up equipment and materials.
• Other duties as assigned to complete installation requirements

What you need to bring to this role…
• Must have completed minimum 40 hour training program relating to solar, construction, electrical, etc.
• Available to commit to full paid job training duration (40 to 80 hours, depending on project) Willingness to build construction knowledge, experience, and skills
• Able to work outdoors, on rooftops, and in extreme temperatures
• Reliable transportation to get to and from GRID’s office and various construction sites Willingness and ability to relate to, communicate, and work with diverse populations Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. and familiarity with proper lifting procedures
• Available to work in the early mornings, some late evenings, and weekends
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background screen. GRID Alternatives believes in working with those who have faced barriers to employment including those who have been formerly incarcerated. To that end, we will not make blanket assessments about particular convictions, and we will follow EEOC guidance to take care not to make determinations that may have disparate impact for people of a particular race, gender, national origin, etc.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Meet Section 3/Targeted Worker requirements for labor compliance.
• Must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

Where you will sit and the places you may go…

This position may rarely require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a paid temporary job training position paying at a rate of $44.14/hr for The Carlton and $38.00/hr for Central Ave Apartments. Benefits may be available, listed below.
