Job Description
The US Bureau of Land Management is hiring a Biological Science Technician for Natural Resource Monitoring in Oregon. The role involves planning and executing fieldwork for data collection, analysis, and documentation related to monitoring programs. Responsibilities include habitat assessments and resource data management. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with relevant experience or education. The position is not remote, based in either Three Rivers or Hines, Oregon.
This position is located in Three Rivers, OR; or Hines, OR.
Duties
• Biological Science Technicians (Natural Resource Monitoring) assist with planning and directing field work for the collection, analysis, and documentation of data related to monitoring programs.
• Works directly with Monitoring group and GIS specialists assembling and summarizing field data, ensuring that all monitoring activities are fully documented and reported.
• Assists with the execution of the resource monitoring plans such as habitat assessment framework for Sage Grouse, multiple indicator monitoring for stream habitat, and assessment inventory and monitoring strategy.
• Collects, analyzes/evaluating, interpreting, summarizing, documenting, storing and retrieving resource data.

Qualifications

GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal. Examples of specialized experience include tasks such as assisting with collecting field data in support of monitoring programs; assisting in implementation of a resource monitoring program that evaluates the effectiveness of land management actions; documenting field observation; navigating outside through carious land types to accomplish duties with supervisor oversight, working as a member of a team.
OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled
OR Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Undergraduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environments: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking/hiking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated that may also be steep, wet and muddy. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to perform the work of the position, this includes tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods away from a vehicle. Work while in the office is performed in adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. Fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals.

Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.

This position is not eligible for Telework.
All positions may not be filled or they may be filled at different times depending on budget, hiring needs, and requirements. These positions are temporary and are expected to last for up to 6 months. These positions have no promotion potential, if you want to be considered for a higher grade you must apply for the higher grade.
