AZ Driver, Emergency Response Services

GFL Environmental is hiring full-time AZ Operators for their Emergency Response Unit in Kitchener, ON. Responsibilities include transporting and managing hazardous waste, responding to environmental incidents, and operating various trucks and equipment. Candidates must have a valid AZ license, strong mechanical aptitude, and be available for on-call emergency responses. The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
GFL Environmental is looking for full-time AZ Operators to support our Emergency Response Unit out of Kitchener, ON! The driver will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various customer sites. The successful candidate will be required to load and unload trucks. Will also have the ability to operate a variety of truck and equipment including vacuum trucks, box trucks, and any other equipment that fits their license on site if necessary.



Key Responsibilities:

The Emergency Response Operator will respond to various incidents such as:Environmental and Industrial spillsClandestine laboratory decommissioningHighway incidents involving tractor trailers, accidents, and chemical leaksTrain derailments involving hazardous chemicals, fires, and site safety planning.Marine operations mostly regarding fuel spills into open bodies of water. Involving boom deployment and boat operations.Weather event responses involving wind/ice storms, forest fires, and flooding.Chemical assessments and advisory services.Working alongside police, fire, EMS, Environment Canada, and other stakeholders.Incidents involving heavy equipment, vacuum trucks, and water blasters.Participating in job specific and health & safety training as requiredOperating his/her position in an efficient and safe mannerCompleting work related documentation and reportingFollow all established organizational policies and proceduresPromote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violencePerform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or othersReporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or othersAdhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards ActParticipate in team/staff meetings when required

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

Valid AZ licence required with a suitable drivers abstract and experience operating manual transmissionOvertime as requiredWeekend work may be required, depending on business needsOn-call work availability for emergency responsesStrong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance.Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.High level of personal integrity.Strong work ethic.Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors.Manual dexterity, ability to lift 75+ lbs required.
