About the position
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a socio-environmental scholar for a faculty position in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. This role focuses on sustainable land systems, emphasizing a transdisciplinary approach that integrates land systems science, environmental economics, and agroecology. The successful candidate will develop a competitive research program, engage in teaching, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to promote sustainability and equity in land resource management.
Responsibilities
• Develop a robust research program that examines pathways to sustainable and equitable land resource management.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on land systems science, quantitative methods, environmental monitoring, and/or social-ecological systems.

• Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to bridge the gap between theory and practice in environmental sustainability.
,
• Engage with relevant stakeholders to inform policy development and community engagement strategies.
Requirements
• PhD in Environmental Economics, Agricultural or Resource Economics, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a closely related field by the start date of the position.

• Demonstrated expertise in research methods such as causal inference, environmental monitoring, land resource economics, and/or community-based research.
,
• Strong record of scholarship, with publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
,
• Instructional experience preferred, with a record of teaching excellence strongly desired in a diverse classroom setting.

• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and public outreach.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in engaging diverse publics, landowners and managers, and local and Indigenous communities.

• Experience with land use modelling, applied econometrics, machine learning, supply chain analysis, life cycle assessment, and climate economics.
