Job Description

The Wildfire Mitigation Fellow position at CORE in Siskiyou County, CA involves assisting with wildfire defense initiatives, educating residents, and collaborating with stakeholders. Responsibilities include participating in defensible space projects, presenting strategies, and understanding local emergency systems. The role requires travel within Siskiyou County and participation in disaster response as needed. Candidates must be over 18, a US citizen, and possess a valid driver's license.
Assist the Community Wildfire Defense Grant project to better prepare, educate, and empower the residents of Siskiyou County against the threat of wildfire.

Main Responsibilities:
• Participate in defensible space initiatives across Siskiyou County.
• Assist presenting wildfire mitigation strategies/tactics, education, and outreach to a diverse audience.
• Work alongside various stakeholders, community-based organizations, and others while fostering partnerships.
• Develop an understanding of wildfire in the urban area and defensible space strategies/tactics.
• Develop an understanding of local emergency alert systems and aid others in understanding fire weather warnings.
• Have their own transportation and availability to travel/drive to various locations in Siskiyou County.
• Flexibility to work normal business hours and occasional weekends.
• Will receive relevant training to perform all duties and responsibilities.
• * AmeriCorps Member Responsibilities:
• Serve ~35 hours per week.
• Must be available to deploy to state-wide emergency operations up to 4 times per term and; 2 weeks each as determined by AmeriCorps.
• As needed, Members will deploy to disasters and provide appropriate assistance to the organization(s) directly managing the disaster response. Deployments will happen on very short notice for up to two weeks.
• Provide day to day support to nonprofit partner-site (CORE) in addressing the effects of climate change through disaster preparedness, urban greening and education workshops.
• Attend recurring performance check-ins with CERC Management.
• Complete mandatory training in-person or virtually as directed.
• Weekly communication, documentation and timekeeping of hours and activities.

Scope and Travel:
• Extensive driving throughout Siskiyou County.

Qualifications:
• Over the age of 18
• US Citizen
• Valid Driver’s License

Experience:
• Desire to work with community members

Skills and Competencies
• Experience using Microsoft Suite.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Ability to lift 35 lbs
