Job Description
Climate House US is seeking a volunteer social media expert to develop their brand identity, templates, and editorial strategy for their upcoming launch. The role involves creating a social media brand kit for Instagram using Canva or Figma, focusing on arts and cultural themes related to climate change. The volunteer will collaborate weekly to produce assets for various types of posts, aiming for completion by early October.
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.
We're preparing to launch our organization, and looking for a social media expert to develop our social media brand identity, templates, and editorial strategy in service of our organization's aesthetic and mission: "art, culture & policy interventions for a changing climate". Through policy-integrated arts and cultural experiences, we help audiences perceive the complex systems shaping public life today and create opportunities for audiences to reclaim collective authorship over these systems in service of the common good. The volunteer will produce a social media brand kit for Instagram, an editorial strategy, and a suite of custom templates to help guide our communications as we move into launch.
This will be based off an existing brand assets and visual identity and an initial overview governing the vision for our social media page, which should feel like an arts and cultural gathering space in its own right. We lack access to paid programs like Adobe at this time, so templates created should be created and editable in Canva and/or Figma. My preference is Canva due to familiarity, but we use both.
We would like to have these ready to go by early October in preparation for a first series of posts to announce some of our first projects. We expect to meet weekly for about 30 minutes until the project is complete. We will go over the types of posts along with a baseline editorial plan, but need assets and templates for carousels, events, and reels (opening graphic and closing).
The other posts and template types will be determined in partnership based on what we present.
This project is critical for our launch and communications strategy as we prepare for launch. We want the social media page to serve our mission in its own right, and would like to produce a brand identity and content strategy that serves the mission of the organization and speaks its aesthetic. We love the brand design of arts and cultural organizations like Serpentine and Kadist, who have a polished social media aesthetic.
We'd like to apply our existing brand kit and materials to the design of updated social media templates and editorial strategy to best communicate our brand and communications to the world which is situated within a contemporary art context. I will share our existing brand assets and visual identity and an initial overview governing the vision for our social media page, which should feel like a social gathering / gallery space in its own right. Phase 1: initial meetings to get a sense of what we are looking for Phase 2: produce social media templates, work on refinement Phase 3: a tailored social media plan in service of goals
We'd have working templates and an editorial strategy to use in communicating our work with the world via social media. We'd have templates we can work with and update in Canva or Figma until we can finally contract a designer for these projects.
Climate House US ("Climate House") Mission: Climate House is a creative think tank using the arts to illustrate actionable pathways forward—and bring them to life.
Our Mythos Embodied Climate: Climate change is not the abstract, technical issue it’s often framed to be–but a universal, ambient one experienced through our bodies and daily lives. CH communicates using universal sensory language, to reintegrate our understanding of climate change as real in the felt sense, and as a core defining issue shaping everything around us.
Universal Sensory Language: By speaking this universal language of the senses, we can communicate in a language everyone speaks and understands. This helps reframe climate as an everyone issue–providing an opportunity for the general public to reclaim their agency in understanding it and engaging with its solutions creatively, collaboratively, and meaningfully. Culture-First: Culture is the fabric of daily life.
CH uses a broad suite of cultural tools to meet people where they are, designing programming that is audience-tailored and culture-first, recognizing this as the carrier oil for engaging with more complex topics. Show-not-tell: Because seeing is believing, we design programs that show, not tell. All of our programs are seared with a blueprint, grounding solutions on the experiential plane, allowing our audience to feel solutions that are so actionable, they can taste them.
