Reporting Relationship

The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and manages a team of multiple (5) direct reports.

Accountabilities and Key Functions

The Vice President, Development & Origination is responsible for overseeing the development of energy projects in Canada, including origination and strategic sourcing activities.

Role & Responsibilities
• Provides input for the business development strategy and is accountable to execute and manage to the budget.
• Oversees the identification, development, and management of the business strategic growth, including strategic objectives, target market sector and growth initiatives.
• Provides leadership on select major acquisitions.
• Reviews trends, and feedback from market at large to maximize opportunities for emerging client priorities.
• Builds relationships with key stakeholders, federal and provincial power authorities, and community to support opportunities and growth for the business.
• Identifies key talent and is responsible for the activities of a development and origination team.
• Collaborates with peers to leverage expertise, ensure project success, and implement best practices.
• Is responsible for delivering projects on time and on budget.
• Manages and coordinates the work of the project development due diligence team during acquisition process.
• Supervises project management team and coordinates the pre-construction activity of projects.

• A proven record of empowering teams to identify and solve problems, creating a clear sense of identity with the company, and holding teams accountable for meeting their collective goals.
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced and multi-task work environment.
• “Self-Starter” and deadline driven.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Suite (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Project), Primavera, etc.
• Ability to successfully lead with little direction to meet organizational goals.
• Confidence to influence a high caliber team to drive a business to higher performance levels and seize the opportunities presented internally and in the market.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, construction or engineering, or other equivalent experience. Master’s degree (M. Eng., M. Sc.A., MBA) is considered a plus.
• 10+ years' experience of progressive business development experience within the renewable energy environment.
• A track record of developing brownfield and greenfield wind projects, as well as experience in interfacing with municipal, provincial, and federal authorities, and the private sector.
• Must be open for 30% travel nationally and/or internationally.
