The Transport Research Intern position at the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) involves supporting sustainable transport initiatives through research, data analysis, and content development. The role is hybrid or fully remote within the U.S., requires 20 hours of work per week from September 2025 to May 2026, and offers a stipend of $400 weekly. Position: Transport Research Intern at Institute for Transportation and Development Policy ITDP’s Global Program – Transport Research InternThe Global Program scales up sustainable transport measures worldwide by documenting best practices, monitoring progress, and translating research into practical guidance for decision‑makers. The Transport Research Intern will support these efforts through research, data analysis, and content development.Location: Washington, D.C. (hybrid) or fully remote in the United States. Duration: September 2025 – May 2026. Working hours: 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters. Stipend: $400 per week for 20 hours worked.ITDP is a nonprofit headquartered in New York City with offices across Africa, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States. Our programs focus on bus rapid transit, cycling, walking, travel demand management, parking, transport policy, shared mobility, and urban development.RESPONSIBILITIESFind, synthesize, and communicate research supporting ITDP’s programs and projects; identify and disseminate critical takeaways.Perform literature reviews, extract findings, and draft content for ITDP research products on public transport, cycling, walking, and multimodal integration.Create visual materials (maps, graphs, graphics) based on data analysis.Assist research staff in identifying key data sources, making data requests, and obtaining, cleaning, and organizing quantitative and spatial data.Participate in internal and external meetings, presentations, and webinars to grow our research capacity and knowledge base.Occasional administrative duties as needed.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in urban planning, public policy, geography, or a related field.Ability to work 20 hours per week for both the Fall and Spring semesters (approximately September 2025 – May 2026).Interest in cities, sustainable transportation, urban planning, climate mitigation, or related areas (justify your interest in your cover letter).Demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive internet research and critical analysis to identify findings, develop recommendations, or extract key information.Strong communication skills: clear written, oral, and interpersonal communication.Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities.Effective time‑management skills, prioritizing urgent requests.Ability to work at least one day per week in our Washington, D.C. office or fully remote in the United States.PREFERREDUnderstanding of public transport and development concepts (technical design, policy development, funding, etc.).Proficiency in GIS.Proficiency in Excel.Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple projects of varying scales.Familiarity with Open Street Map , Mapbox, or other spatial data visualization platforms.Proficiency in Spanish, Chinese, or Portuguese is a plus.Experience living or working outside of the United States is a plus.Ability to work in ITDP’s Washington, D.C. office.STIPENDThe intern will receive a stipend of $400 per week for 20 hours worked.#J-18808-Ljbffr
