Salary:$50,882 – $53,045 annually
Deadline:Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
Description:
Are you interested in the role of education to achieve just and equitable solutions? Do you believe in community relationships and intersectional solutions to climate change? Do you want to be part of a collaborative, joyful, and creative team?
Climate Generation ignites and sustains the ability of youth, educators, and communities to act on systems perpetuating the climate crisis. Based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Climate Generation strategically engages and empowers youth, educators, decision-makers, and the public to foster climate literacy and action with the goal of building a more equitable and resilient future for all.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Teach Climate Network Coordinator to support the vision of Climate Generation’s Education Program, which is to provide climate change education professional development for PK-12 formal and non-formal educators across the U.S. Climate Generation believes high quality climate change education requires a holistic approach, one that speaks to the complexity of the climate system and investigates how political, economic, and social systems influence the impacts and solutions of climate change.
Our education program integrates Western science and Indigenous ways of knowing, centers justice education and anti-racism practices, supports the leadership of youth and frontline communities, and doesn’t rely on fear, but rather focuses on solutions. The Education Program develops learning opportunities and teaching materials that are in alignment with the North American Association for Environmental Education’s Guideline for Excellence Series, the 2024 Climate Literacy Principles, Learning for Justice’s Social Justice Standards, as well as other national and state frameworks for climate education.
The Teach Climate Network Coordinator serves an educator network across North America; promoting professional learning, collaboration, and relationship development across geographic, racial, and cultural differences. This position’s primary focus is on developing project ideas, facilitating programming, and coordinating teams to maintain and enliven annual events for the Teach Climate Network (TCN). The TCN is a national network of formal and non-formal educators dedicated to learning the newest teaching practices of climate change education and leading their communities to more equitable, long-lasting climate change solutions.
Each year, Climate Generation hosts a group of organizations that participate in the TCN Cohort Coalition; a community of practice composed of organizational leaders that help us plan our cornerstone event, the TCN Summer Institute, and inform network offerings. Cohort Coalition members participate in a series of collaborative working meetings to develop the themes, content, and structure of the Summer Institute and the following year of events for the TCN.
By partnering with organizations across North America, we localize climate change professional learning to different regions, connect educators to people doing high-quality work in their areas, and highlight the solutions and local community action taking place for climate justice.
Qualifications:
• Significant experience working within the educational system or a demonstrated understanding of the complex inner workings of the education system.
• Demonstrated deep experience building relationships, facilitating collaborative events, listening deeply, and networking with community members.
• Comfortability and confidence in public speaking and/or community engagement.
• Experience and interest in creating and facilitating professional learning experiences for formal and non-formal educators.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of building and maintaining relationships at all levels of an organization and with various public and private partners.
