The City of Albuquerque seeks a Sustainability Specialist to oversee and coordinate sustainability projects within the Environmental Health Department. About the position

The Sustainability Specialist will play a crucial role in planning, overseeing, and coordinating various projects related to sustainability programs within the Environmental Health Department. This position involves evaluating and monitoring ongoing projects, collaborating with community partners, and conducting analyses to identify sustainability needs within the community. The specialist will also provide technical support to the Sustainability Officer, ensuring that all initiatives align with the department's goals and objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to sustainability, with a focus on developing and implementing effective programs that address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices in the Albuquerque metro area. In addition to project management, the Sustainability Specialist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances related to sustainability. This includes interpreting and enforcing federal, state, and local policies, as well as conducting research and analysis to evaluate sustainability service delivery methods. The specialist will prepare and present clear and concise reports, both analytical and narrative, to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders. The position requires a strong understanding of the principles and practices of sustainability program development and implementation, as well as the ability to work independently and establish effective working relationships with various stakeholders. The Sustainability Specialist will also need to stay informed about current environmental conditions and sustainability challenges facing the community, adapting strategies as necessary to meet evolving needs.

Responsibilities
• Plan, oversee and coordinate projects related to sustainability programs within the Environmental Health Department.

• Evaluate and monitor sustainability projects.

• Coordinate with community partners to enhance sustainability efforts.

• Conduct analysis to determine sustainability needs in the community.

• Provide technical support to the Sustainability Officer.

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances related to sustainability.

• Research, analyze, and evaluate sustainability service delivery methods and techniques.

• Prepare and present clear and concise analytical, statistical, and narrative reports.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in science, engineering, planning, or public administration.

• Five (5) years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance, sustainability program administration, or environmental and scientific studies.

• Possession of a valid New Mexico's Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

• Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
