The Southern Ute Indian Tribe seeks a Soil & Water Conservation Technician in Ignacio, CO. The role involves assisting in soil and water conservation projects, operating heavy equipment, and managing noxious weed control. Candidates need a high school diploma, 3 years of heavy equipment experience, and must obtain a State of Colorado applicator's license and a commercial driver's license. This is a full-time, in-person position with a salary starting at $27.56 per hour.

*To apply visit: careers.southernute.com/pfund.*POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Soil and Water Conservationist; provides assistance in the activities of natural resource soil conservation and water resource projects; assists with the noxious weed control program on the Pine River Indian Irrigation System.*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Operates backhoe, excavator, dump truck, bulldozer, tractor, brush hog, and other large equipment on a regular basis.Maintains and keeps all equipment and tools in proper condition.Assists in surveying, land leveling, and water and land measurement activities.Assists with project management, i.e. planning, construction, and reporting.Works with Soil and Water Conservationist and Water Resource Technician in the planning, design, and implementation of soil and water conservation projects including improvements to existing irrigation conveyance structures and ditches to bring water to Tribal lands.Assists in the planning of long-term noxious weed and vegetation control programs.Provides on-site application of herbicides.Identifies and maps noxious weed infestations.Maintains effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, Tribal members, local and federal governments, and the public.Inventories equipment and supplies and orders additional supplies when necessary.Follows written instructions from pesticide labels, irrigation guides, natural resource management guides, and equipment training manuals.Performs other work-related duties when required or requested.*QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
Must have 3 years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.


Must have experience in the application of herbicides and be able to obtain a State of Colorado Certified Operator applicator’s license within 18 months of employment.


Must be able to obtain commercial driver’s license within 18 months of employment.


Must have a valid Driver’s License for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal vehicle insurance policy.


Must pass a thorough criminal history background check and pre-employment drug test.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
State of Colorado Certified Operator applicator’s license.
Commercial driver’s license
Experience using Google Earth and ArcGIS software.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
