VHB is seeking a Senior Transportation/Traffic Engineer in Watertown, MA, to lead projects on traffic control systems and transportation planning. Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

Are you passionate about creating safer, more efficient transportation systems? VHB’s New England Transportation Systems Group is growing, and we’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our team!

In this role, you’ll lead impactful projects focused on planning, designing, and supporting the construction of temporary traffic control systems, construction phasing, and smart work zone solutions—all aligned with MUTCD and AASHTO design standards. Additionally, you’ll contribute your expertise to traffic signal design and transportation planning initiatives, driving innovative solutions for communities across New England.

Responsibilities
• Development of simple-to-complex Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCP), including traditional and smart work zones and construction phase service planning for state, municipal and private clients.
• Development of Construction Phasing Design Plans detailing traffic staging for multi-year, multi-stage construction projects.
• Work within a team of professionals to draft plans, calculation book, estimates and specifications for a variety of transportation projects.
• Writing technical reports and memoranda.
• Perform engineering field work as needed.
• Project task management and mentorship of junior staff

Skills and Attributes
• AutoCAD experience required.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Attention to detail.
• Excel in working in a team environment.
• Ability to read and comprehend design and construction specifications and plans preferred.
• Ability/willingness to work outdoors on occasion on highway job sites and uneven terrain.
• Technical Report Writing experience preferred.

Qualifications
• BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation Engineering
• 5-8 years of professional experience
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Interest in working across multiple engineering disciplines concurrently with a diversity of assignments.
• Experience developing civil design and construction documents – preference given for MassDOT and other state DOT experience.
• PE preferred.
• Valid driver’s license
