Job Description

Save the Children is seeking a Senior Manager for Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation in India. This role involves developing and managing strategies to enhance resilience against climate change, designing innovative programs, and building a competent technical team. The manager will collaborate with various thematic leads, provide technical support, and represent the organization in relevant platforms. The position is based at the National Support Office and is not remote.

Background:

Function:

The Programme and Policy function, covers Thematic Experts, Programme Operations, and Policy and Programme Impact. The function links grass-roots work with policy changes at the highest level, and manages an ecosystem of partnerships, community organizations, donors, SC Members, peer organizations, academic institutions, media, and the states.

Role and Responsibilities:

Sr. Manager—Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation will be a key constituent to the thematic vertical of Poverty & Inclusion and will work towards amplifying the portfolio’s impact on Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Director – Poverty and Inclusion, the person will –
• Will support in conceptualizing, building and management of the Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations strategy and the portfolio in SC India,
• Design and develop innovative programmes and projects on” Building resilience of children and community vulnerable to disasters and climate change/variabilities”, both in rural and urban geographies.
• Develop a competent technical team at the Hub / State teams to enhance their capacities on the subject.
• Closely engage with thematic leads—Child Poverty, Urban, Gender Equality, Child Protection, Education and Health and Education to integrate Climate Change in respective themes.
• Work closely with knowledge Management, research, advocacy and campaigns to influence various stakeholders on policy frameworks.
• Provide ongoing technical support to the State and field Offices to ensure quality implementation of Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations programmes.
• Represent SC India in Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations and other important Platforms/ Networks/ Alliances of the Government and Civil Society organizations as and when requested.
• Support the Deputy Director—Deputy Director, Poverty and Inclusion in building strategic partnerships with organizations working on Resilience, disasters and climate change.

Other responsibilities:

Strategy and planning
• Support Deputy Director Poverty & Inclusion to ensure policies and framework are fully complied for efficiency and accountability towards beneficiaries, donors and other relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure that SC’s commitment to improve quality and accountability in Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations programming across internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance to SC BR’s policies and practices, including the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH) and the Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP).

Measures of Performance:
• Number of programme and projects designed and developed.
• Technical support provided to the Hub and programme implementation teams.
• Knowledge products (reports, technical publications, thematic research, best practices, etc.) vetted/developed for Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations.
• Evidence on integration of innovation and behavioral insights in the programme design.

Approval Authority:
• Technical collaboration and partnerships at national and hub level
• Technical support provided to Hub leads and project teams

Experience
• Min. 9 years of experience on Community Based Resilience and adaptation.
• Proven experience and evidence in developing Community Based projects including early warning system, working with local governance, meaningful engagement of children and adaptive livelihoods.
• Knowledge on climate change and field experience on climate change adaptations.
• Sound knowledge of International, Regional and National framework and discourse on Resilience, disasters, and Climate Change.
• Experience on integration Gender Equality in the programmes.
• Experience of working with Government agencies, UN, Multi and Bi-lateral, academia, corporates, INGOS and civil society.

Qualifications

Post Graduate Degree in Rural Management, Humanitarian, and/or equivalent. Certified course and/or training on climate change.

Skills & Knowledge

Technical:
• Understanding, Compliance and Commitment to Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Agreements, and other emerging frameworks.
• Understanding of National framework and policies related to Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations.
• Understanding of and commitment to International Standards of Relief work such as SPHERE Minimum Standards, Red Cross Code of Conduct.
• Previous experience of working with international donors and ECHO grants in particular
• Proven ability to manage people, resources and finances.
• Good interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
• Analytical and conceptual skills to think and plan strategically.
• Skills and experience in project programming, monitoring, review and evaluation.
• Ability to produce analytical and well-presented project proposals and reports in English
