Job Description

Binnies is seeking a Senior Consultant for River Restoration, Wetlands & Fish Passage to join their Solutions By Nature team. The role involves delivering nature-based solutions projects, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams, and contributing to business development. While the job location is flexible, travel to client sites and offices in the UK is required. The position offers an opportunity to work in ecologically sensitive environments and support the development of future professionals.
The Vacancy Binnies is recruiting Nature Based Solutions Consultants to join our Solutions By Nature (SBN) team. SBN exists to work with nature, not against it. We design, develop and deliver environmental solutions that create lasting resilience in the natural world, spanning river restoration, wetland creation (Including Integrated Constructed Wetlands), fish passage design and construction, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and rainwater management.

Our work takes place across some of the UK’s most ecologically sensitive and visually remarkable environments — upland rivers, floodplains, urban watercourses, estuaries and catchments — and the people who thrive in our team are those who feel genuinely at home in these places.

Reporting to SBN Leads you will use your experience of whole-lifecycle project delivery — from concept and outline design through to detailed design, planning and construction — to develop and deliver scaled Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects for a wide variety of clients and industries. You will coordinate multi-disciplinary environmental and engineering teams across Binnies, the RSK Group and an extensive specialist supply chain, while also contributing to business development, proposals and tenders for new opportunities.

Working alongside our existing team you will provide meaningful technical support and delivery capacity across our growing project pipeline. There will also be an expectation to support collaboration with institutes and universities in developing the graduates and professionals of tomorrow through development programmes, certifications and training opportunities.

The location of the role is flexible, but you must be willing and able to travel to client, Binnies and RSK offices and project sites throughout the UK. We offer a flexible approach to daily working arrangements to ensure that a positive work-life balance is maintained.

SBN is a growing team with real momentum, delivering projects for some of the UK’s most forward-thinking water sector clients. This is an opportunity to be part of something at an early and exciting stage — to grow with the team, develop your skills in a specialist and genuinely rewarding field, and play a meaningful role in delivering projects that make a real difference to the natural world.

If you have a passion for nature-based engineering and want your work to mean something beyond the programme and the budget, we would love to hear from you.

About The Role
In this role you will provide technical support across the full breadth of SBN’s disciplines with a particular focus on river restoration, wetlands and fish passage— however, you will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to whichever area of the portfolio needs your expertise at any given time. Your responsibilities will include:

Manage the design and specification of natural flood management, habitat creation, channel realignment and wetland construction schemes, working within the requirements of relevant environmental consenting and permitting frameworks
Collaborate with clients, stakeholders and the supply chain to value-engineer solutions from a buildability perspective, seeking efficiency in design and managing change effectively

Fish Passage & Structures

Provide technical input into the design and delivery of fish passage schemes, including upstream and downstream passage solutions and associated structures, coordinating with fisheries specialists and engineers as required
Engage with the relevant regulatory bodies, environmental organisations and statutory consultees to progress consents and build stakeholder confidence in our approach
Coordinate inputs from structural and civil engineering teams within fish passage and associated river structures to ensure solutions are delivered to a high standard.

Technical Support & Quality
