The 2D Environment Concept Artist job at IGG carries a heavy responsibility for both creative output and team management. Your daily workflow will involve a mix of high-fidelity painting, technical planning, and mentorship.
1. Visual Style Definition & Guideline Creation
• Artistic Expression: Contribute directly to the definition of IGG’s unique visual styles. You will create “Master Paintings” that establish the mood, lighting, and architectural language of the game world.
• Template Development: Design and implement environment concept templates and style guidelines. These documents ensure that every artist on the team—and every external vendor—remains consistent with the project’s aesthetic goals.
• World Building: Develop the history and logic of the environment through visual cues, ensuring that every location feels lived-in and narratively relevant to the IP.
2. Strategic Environment Planning & Leadership
• Team Organization: Lead and organize the workflows of junior concept artists and production staff. You are responsible for ensuring that milestones are met and that the creative quality remains consistently high across the department.
• Pipeline Management: Conduct thorough design reviews in accordance with the established environment concept pipeline. You will identify potential technical bottlenecks and propose creative solutions to keep production moving.
• Knowledge Sharing: Act as a mentor. You will accumulate and share environment design expertise within the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and artistic growth at IGG.
3. Core Design & Outsource Oversight
• Core Tasks: Directly participate in the most challenging environment design tasks, particularly for key gameplay locations, UI backgrounds, and cinematic sets.
• Outsource Management: Review outsourced design drafts and provide detailed, constructive feedback. You will guide external production teams to ensure their output matches IGG’s internal quality bar.
• AI Integration: Utilize and champion the use of AI tools to assist in concept creation, effect optimization, and overall efficiency. You will stay at the forefront of tech-assisted art to maximize the studio’s output.
Candidate Requirements for Candidate Requirements
• Artistic Foundation: A degree in an art-related major (Fine Arts, Illustration, or Game Design) with a rock-solid foundation in perspective, light, and color.
• Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and other relevant design software. Familiarity with 3D block-outs (using Blender or Maya) as a base for 2D painting is highly preferred.
• AI Literacy: Familiarity with integrating AI tools into the concept workflow for rapid ideation and effect optimization is a modern requirement for this role at IGG.
Experience & Background
• Western Cartoon Specialist: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience specifically in Western cartoon-style environment design. Your portfolio should demonstrate a mastery of this aesthetic.
• Leadership Pedigree: Previous experience leading a design team is highly preferred. You should be comfortable giving feedback and managing diverse artistic personalities.
• Industry Passion: A genuine passion for gaming and a deep understanding of player experience. You should be able to look at an environment not just as a painting, but as a functional, playable space.
Professional & Personal Traits
• Resilience: The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight production deadlines without compromising on quality—a hallmark of the mobile gaming industry.
• Collaboration: A high level of engagement and a commitment to team goals. You are a “product-first” artist who values the final player experience above individual ego.
• Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate creative visions and technical requirements to both artistic and non-artistic stakeholders.
Singapore is IGG’s regional creative hub, offering a vibrant, multicultural environment for creative professionals. Joining the Art & Animation department here means working at the intersection of traditional artistry and cutting-edge technology.
• Innovation Hub: Access to the latest tools and a forward-thinking approach to AI in the creative process.
• Global Impact: Work on titles that reach millions of players across hundreds of countries.
• Career Growth: As a Senior Artist at IGG, you will have a clear path toward Lead Concept Artist or Art Director roles within the organization.
