Job Description

The County of Centre is seeking a Resource Conservation Intern in Hublersburg, Pennsylvania. The intern will assist with conservation programs related to agricultural practices, erosion control, and watershed management. Key responsibilities include site visits, compliance reviews, project implementation, technical assistance to farmers, and outreach activities. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree or be enrolled in a relevant program. The position offers a salary of $32,468.80 per year.
To assist in administering programs delegated to the County by PA-DEP concerning conservation planning, agricultural Best Management Practices, erosion and sediment pollution control (E&SPC), Chesapeake Bay Program, Nutrient Management, watershed restoration and planning, outreach, and other related matters.

Essential Job Functions:
• Inventories historic Best Management Practice implementation on farms in Centre County, utilizing PracticeKeeper or similar computer programs.
• Conducts site visits on farms, developments and other construction sites, to verify Best Management Practices.
• Reviews Erosion and Sediment Pollution COntrol Plans and NPDES permits for compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Assists with project development and implementation of agricultural Best Management Practices.
• Participates in Chesapeake Bay Program stakeholder meetings and projects, including but not limited to Countywide Action Plan implementation, Precision Conservation Rapid Delisting Catchments, Section 319 Planning, and other Watershed Outreach.
• Provides technical assistance to farmers on the management of water and soil resources.
• Assists in arranging tours, field days, demonstration projects, and other outreach events.
• Assists with the collection of manure and soil samples.
• Reviews and develops farm conservation plans and Nutrient Management Plans.
• Provides information on financial resources (grants, loans, and cost-share) available to agricultural producers and landowners in the installation of agricultural conservation best management practices.

Other Duties:
• Maintains computerized tracking system.
• Prepares reports as required.
• Conducts education programs for schools and other community agencies.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.

Education/Training Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or student currently enrolled in post-secondary educational institution, in agriculture, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or related natural resource field. Computer training or experience required. Experience with agriculture a plus but not a requirement.

Work Experience: Relevant course work at post-secondary educational institution.
