The LA Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries is hiring a Research Biologist 1-3 for the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Grand Chenier, LA. Responsibilities include designing and implementing research projects, evaluating species populations, participating in banding and aerial surveys, and advising on resource management. This position serves as a research biologist at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge. The incumbent is responsible for the development, design, and implementation of original and collaborative research projects concerning resource management and investigates possible sources of outside funding to be used as match. Responsibilities include: evaluate changes in species populations and associated habitats and makes recommendations for management or recovery strategies based on findings; participate in banding operations (i.e., mottled ducks, wood duck, mourning dove, and others); participate as an observer in aerial waterfowl surveys (must be able to tolerate low-altitude flying). The incumbent acts as a scientific and technical advisor to the supervisor and administration regarding species and populations and represents the department at meetings and to various groups, participates on committees and task forces established to study, manage, and enhance biological resources, coordinates habitat development projects in conjunction with other governmental and non-governmental organizations, monitors performance, budgets, expenditures, and reporting for federal grants and contracts. The incumbent prepares and submits various reports including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at departmental and professional meetings. The incumbent receives broad supervision from a biologist supervisor, biologist manager, or higher level manager or administrator. Occasional travel, overnight field stays, and irregular work hours are required.
