Job Description

The Renewable Energy Engine Plant Technician at Waste Management is responsible for managing the Landfill Gas to Energy Facility, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, and optimizing production. Duties include evaluating operational data, managing capacity, inspecting machinery, performing maintenance, and responding to emergencies. The role involves compliance with agreements, representing the company during inspections, and maintaining community relations. Availability outside business hours is required.
About the position

As a Renewable Energy Engine Plant Technician at Waste Management, you will manage the Landfill Gas to Energy Facility to maximize production while ensuring safe work practices and environmental compliance. This role requires you to be available whenever necessary to meet the objectives of the role and the needs of the facility. You will be responsible for planning a proper course of action based on thorough evaluation of operational data, managing production capacity, and reducing plant operating expenses while limiting equipment downtime. Your duties will include inspecting ongoing activities for safety and environmental compliance, reporting and developing recommendations for corrective actions in instances of recurring shutdowns or equipment de-rating, and ensuring compliance with all operational requirements of the air permit. You will represent Waste Management Renewable Energy (WMRE) during third-party testing and regulatory inspections, manage relationships with power and gas purchasers, and comply with various agreements related to facility operations. Additionally, you will be responsible for inspecting plant machinery and equipment, performing repairs and maintenance, and implementing safety policies and practices for all work activities. You will also procure plant supplies and replacement equipment, respond to plant shutdowns during non-business hours, and maintain effective relationships with key political and community decision-makers in the region. This position does not have supervisory duties, but you will be expected to identify backup staff and assign call-out schedules to ensure that there is always a plant manager available for emergencies. You will also participate in public forums to support business development and community education, ensuring a favorable outlook of the facility from both customers and the community.

• Represent WMRE during third-party testing and regulatory inspections.

• Manage relationships with power and gas purchasers as the first point of contact.

• Comply with power purchase agreements, gas sales agreements, and interconnect agreements.

• Inspect plant machinery and equipment, performing repairs and maintenance as needed.

• Implement WM and WMRE safety policies and practices for all work activities.
,
• Procure plant supplies and replacement equipment efficiently.
,
• Respond to plant shutdowns during non-business hours to identify and rectify issues.
,
• Identify backup staff and assign call-out schedules for emergencies.
,
• Maintain the facility spare inventory and provide written inventory counts twice annually.
,
• Schedule and conduct plant tours to support good community relations.

• Participate in public forums to support business development and community education.

Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
,
• 5 years of relevant work experience diagnosing and repairing internal combustion engines and cooling systems.
,
• Valid driver's license.
,
• Fundamental knowledge of computer data entry and interpretation.
,
• Ability to manage fiduciary responsibilities.
,
• Ability to lift a minimum of 100 lbs.
,
• Ability to travel up to 15% with overnight stays.
,
• Ability to diagnose and repair DC circuits 12/24 volts.
,
• Basic knowledge of 120/240/480 3-phase volt AC circuits.
,
• Understanding of concepts of 4160 volt circuits.
,
• Familiarity with basic principles of building maintenance.
