The Commonwealth of Kentucky is hiring a Public Safety Telecommunicator I for the Kentucky State Police in Bowling Green, KY. This role involves answering emergency calls, dispatching services, and providing vital support to law enforcement. Candidates must complete a 5-week training academy. The position requires flexible shifts and strong communication skills. No prior experience is necessary, but a high school diploma is required.

Kentucky State Police is the premier, full-service law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Public Safety Telecommunicator is a highly skilled team member, providing a vital link between the state Troopers and the information they need to be effective and efficient in their daily operations. Often times called the "nerve center" of police operations they are the initial first responders, taking the call and dispatching emergency personnel including state and local police, fire and ambulatory services. Due to the nature of 24 hour operations the applicant must be willing to work a flexible shift.
The Kentucky State Police recognizes the importance and significance of the Public Safety Telecommunicator to both Trooper and public safety and therefore goes to great lengths to ensure we provide the appropriate training and equipment for success. A comprehensive Field Training Program begins on the first day of employment and lasts through the first 12 months. In addition, all telecommunicators are required to attend a 5-week training academy within the first year of service to become certified with the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, in the following systems: Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS), as well as training and certification in Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD).
This position has a variable shift. The successful candidate will be required to stay in Frankfort at the Academy Monday through Friday during the five week telecommunications academy.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following
• Answer radio and telephone calls (including 911 in designated areas).
• Gather and relay pertinent information from each communication; dispatching calls to police and other emergency management personnel.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions during medical emergencies.
• Operate the Computer Aided Dispatching system (CAD).
• Familiarity with Post region.
• Utilize law enforcement systems nationwide to assist troopers and detectives with investigations ranging from traffic enforcement to major crime.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must obtain certification as LINK/NCIC Operator within thirty days of employment in this job classification. Must obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher within sixty days of employment in this job classification. Must obtain certification as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) within twelve months of employment in this job classification. Shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Working Conditions
Work is performed in a communications center at a Kentucky State Police Post and under extremely stressful conditions. May be required to work rotating shifts.
