Post Doctorate Research Associate - Computational Climate Science at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Overview The Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate (EBSD) leads novel and necessary research in three core areas: Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Molecular Sciences. The contributions of EBSD staff are many as we continue to elevate the impact of PNNL's science mission: to understand, predict, and control the complex adaptive systems underlying the science behind Earth, energy, and security. Responsibilities The Atmospheric, Climate, and Earth Sciences Division at PNNL seeks a postdoctoral research associate to improve understanding and modeling of atmosphere-ice-ocean interactions and climate feedbacks that influence poleward energy transport and high-latitude systems. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary and collaborative team of researchers, with a broad range of interests and expertise, and will use statistical techniques to quantify the complex feedbacks associated with Arctic amplification, with an emphasis on drivers and impacts of oceanic heat transport. Expertise in modeling and analysis (including statistical and Machine Learning methods) relevant to oceanic transport and climate dynamics is desired. We expect the successful applicant to publish and present their research in the peer-reviewed literature and at scientific conferences. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: + Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Preferred Qualifications: + A Ph.D. degree in Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, Statistics, or a related field + Familiarity with high-performance computing, earth system modeling, and statistical analysis + Experience with computer languages usually used for modeling and analysis (Fortran, Python, NCL, C++, etc.) + Demonstrated expertise in oceanic transport, polar amplification, and feedback analysis + Demonstrated experience in analyzing simulations of earth system models (e.g., CESM, E3SM) + Demonstrated experience in advanced statistical analysis and/or machine learning techniques Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment Not applicable Additional Information This is not a Testing Designated Position (TDP) About PNNL Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is a world-class research institution powered by a highly educated, diverse workforce committed to the values of Integrity, Creativity, Collaboration, Impact, and Co To view full details and how to apply, please login or create a Job Seeker account
