On-Call Avian Biologists – Santa Barbara, California

Vernadero Group, Inc. is seeking on-call avian biologists in Santa Barbara, CA, to conduct MBTA surveys in the Los Padres National Forest. The position requires biologists to access survey areas using personal vehicles and collect data electronically. The schedule is flexible and based on project needs, with pay at $45 per hour plus mileage reimbursement.
Vernadero Group, Inc. has an immediate need for on-call avian biologists to conduct approximately weekly (or as-needed) MBTA surveys in the Los Padres National Forest, primarily around Santa Barbara, California, in advance of fuels treatments and construction projects.

Schedule will be on-call, and as-needed, subject to change frequently, depending on project needs.

Job Responsibilities
• Biologists will utilize a combination of established roads and Forest Service roads to access survey areas.
• Surveys will require the use of a personal vehicle capable of driving on Forest service roads in potentially rough condition.
• Biologists will collect data electronically using a personal cell phone or tablet equipped with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123.
• Biologists will collect a combination of species information, behaviors (using eBird behavior codes), and habitat type information within specified survey areas.

Compensation

Pay is $45.00 per hour, with mileage incurred while driving within the project area at the current Federal rate.
