Job description:
Sillito (www.environmentalconsultants.co.za) is seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to join their expanding team of exceptional environmental professionals.
The ideal candidate should have 3 to 5 years demonstratable experience with managing South African Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes from start to finish and should be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
A relevant postgraduate degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
Comprehensive knowledge of South African environmental legislation, along with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience (non-negotiable) in managing environmental authorization processes.
To have worked on at least 5 Basic Assessment and/or Scoping EIA projects independently from start to finish.
Preference will be given to candidates who are Candidate Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAP) or Registered EAPs with the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA).
Outstanding communication and report-writing skills in English; proficiency in Afrikaans is a plus.
Exceptional organizational and project management abilities, with a strong emphasis on meticulous record-keeping.
Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of performing under pressure.
Ability to collaborate across various disciplines and industries.
Demonstrated experience managing projects independently
Strong understanding of:
NEMA
EIA Regulations
Public participation processes
Ability to:
Compile BA and EIA reports independently
Manage specialists and timelines
Engage with clients and authorities
Core Responsibilities:
Full lifecycle management and conducting environmental authorization processes (such as Basic Assessment, Scoping & EIA processes, S24G applications, amendment applications, and more)
Performing Environmental Screening Investigations and identifying environmental sensitivities and constraints
Engaging in public and authority consultations
Overseeing project administration
Report writing (BA, Scoping, EIRs)
Client communication and project coordination
Managing specialists and deliverables

Strong ethical values and integrity. The successful candidate will be based in Cape Town, with a willingness to travel as needed, and must possess a valid driver’s license and personal transportation.
Important Note: This is not a training role. The successful candidate must already be able to perform core EAP functions independently.
