VERBIO Diesel Canada Corporation (VDC) invests in a biodiesel and glycerine production facility in Welland, Ontario. Position Purpose
The Lab Technician works as part of a team in a continuous process manufacturing environment and reports to the Lab Supervisor. This position provides daily support in monitoring quality parameters and quality testing for raw materials as well as finished products. The Lab Technician performs data entry in the QA dataset and assists in identifying and managing HOLD products and any re-work material. The Lab Technician will ensure all the work performed in the lab is done in a safe manner as per Verbio EHS policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Sampling and testing of incoming and finished products ensuring all data is accurate and precise.
• Performing basic wastewater testing and other testing as needed.
• Performing regularly scheduled lab equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Creating Certificate of Analysis (COA) for finished products and approving them in a timely manner.
• Providing accurate feedback in a timely manner on lab results to the VDC operational and quality team.
• Assist the Lab Supervisor with training in proper field sampling, quality management program elements and testing techniques.
• Ensure operator generated data is both accurate and precise.
• Follow all safety policies and help ensure compliance with safety procedures on site.
• Always maintain a neat and clean working area, washing equipment as needed, and placing equipment in the accurate storage areas.
• Participate in annual internal audits of the Quality Management Systems as per ISO 9001 and BQ 9000.
Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience in a manufacturing related industry or chemical lab is an asset.
• Associate degree or higher in Chemistry or related science is preferred.
• A working knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office and the Internet.
• Knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods, and tools.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work shift work including weekends.
• Ability to work independently managing multiple tasks, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, positive attitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the desire to work in a small team environment.
• Experience in the biofuels industry is an asset.
