Northeast Ohio Water Economy Workforce Fellowship
Position Summary
Water Economy Workforce Fellowship Program is a partnership between Cuyahoga County and Student Conservation Association and it’s the NOAA Climate Ready Workforce program. This internship is for young adults to gain workforce experience in the water economy in northeast Ohio. The water economy encompasses economic and social activities in which water is an important factor including watershed management, land use planning, industrial water products and technologies, and water and wastewater utilities. The water economy is one of the fastest growing sectors in Northeast Ohio and this internship program aims to connect the future workforce to this sector through positions in utility, government, nonprofit and/or the corporate sectors. The fellow will be placed at one of the Student Conservation Association’ water workforce partners located in Cuyahoga, Erie Lake, Lorain, or Sandusky.

May 19, 2025 – August 8, 2025
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Fellows will work collaboratively with their host site on projects committed to sustainable water projects in the Lake Erie coastal communities. Fellowship work may include but is not limited to: Engagement with communities in sustainability-centric education events, helping to shape environmental policy, stakeholder engagement events, environmental monitoring, mapping, and modeling, urban forestry projects such as tree planting and urban heat mapping.
Marginal Duties
• Participate in NOAA Climate Ready Workforce learning activities
• Attend Fresh Water Institute convenings
• Meet with other participants in the program
Required Qualifications
• Must be a recent high school graduate, college student and/or recent college graduate
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
• Must have the ability to legally work in the US
• Must be able to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
Preferred Qualifications
• Focus on environment, education industry, engineering, technology, public policy, or sustainability
• Independent research and writing experience
• Competency in Microsoft programs
• Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed including select evenings and Saturdays throughout the program
• Ability to work outside
Hours
40 per week
Living Accommodations
No housing provided. Housing allowance provided.
Compensation
• $800/week living allowance
• $50/week commuting allowance
• $1000/month housing allowance (3 disbursements)
• $1,100 Car Required To/From Transportation
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
