Job Description
Beringia Community Planning is seeking an Intermediate Community Planner based in North Vancouver, BC. The role requires experience in Indigenous community planning and involves leading inclusive planning processes, with at least three days a week in the office. The position offers a salary of $72,800 - $114,400 and includes benefits. Applications are welcome from Indigenous and non-Indigenous candidates, but only from those residing in the Metro Vancouver Area.
This position is available to applicants living in the Metro Vancouver Area. Applications from other Provinces or outside Canada won't be reviewed.

Job Description
Reporting to Jeff Cook, Principal and working with an experienced team of community planners, each day will vary as you will both lead and support a broad range of community planning processes and projects (e.g., land use planning, community planning, infrastructure planning, training/facilitation projects, health planning, and numerous types of Indigenous governance work).
Primary duties will include:
• Managing complex and culturally sensitive community planning projects and processes in a range of substantive areas
• Traveling to remote communities to facilitate community engagement processes as needed
• Liaising with, and in some cases mentoring, local community planning staff
• Designing and facilitating community engagement processes
• Researching and analyzing planning history, trends, and results from community engagement
• Writing and designing innovative, accessible, and user-friendly communication tools, maps, and planning reports
• Supervising and managing planning teams, including junior staff and interns
• Supporting community planning training on various topics
• Preparing proposals and funding applications as needed
Experience and Qualifications Essential
• Master’s degree in Community or Regional Planning or a related discipline plus 7 to 10 years’
planning experience working with Indigenous Nations or related organizations
• Extensive practical experience with community-led planning and development
• Familiarity with the political, historical, and legal context of Indigenous community planning
• Strong cultural competency and sensitivity
• Familiarity with participatory planning theory and practice
• Strong project management skills
• Group facilitation experience and process leadership
• Excellent research, problem-solving, writing, and communication skills
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Motivated, independent, and driven
• Innovative, flexible, and adaptable
• Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities
• Proficient at using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Desirable
• Experience leading land use, community or health planning processes
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
• Visually and graphically creative
• Certification or eligibility for certification with the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners
