Job Description

The Human Resources Coordinator at UM07 University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science coordinates HR functions including talent acquisition and employee support. The role requires in-office work 3-4 days a week with 1-2 days remote. Candidates need a bachelor's degree and 3 years of HR experience. Responsibilities include job postings, onboarding, and assisting with payroll and disciplinary matters. Salary ranges from $60,000 to $70,000.
Job Description SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement:
This position coordinates various functions at the unit level that includes, but is not limited, to talent acquisition, HR operations and administration in accordance with stated policies, directives, organizational objectives, or other regulatory controls. Responds to employee inquiries regarding benefits, compensation, training, compliance, etc. throughout the employee life cycle. Provides unit level HR support for administrators and employees. This HR Coordinator will be responsible for units physically located in Solomons, College Park and Frostburg. Once fully trained, the incumbent should expect to be in the office 3-4 days per week (at an assigned unit) with 1-2 day(s) of remote work. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
This position is an office position, requiring minimal lifting. This position is required to travel to multiple locations across the state of MD to their respective assigned unit locations.

Preferences:
Previous USM or State of MD Human Resources experience is a plus. MD State Retirement Coordinator Certification is also a plus.

Licenses/ Certifications:
SHRM certification is required within 6 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in HR, business or related field.

Experience:

At least three (3) years professional human resources experience. SHRM certification or HRCI certification is required within 6 months of hire.

Other:

Working knowledge of HR principles and procedures.

Ability to interpret State of MD, USM and UMCES policy and procedures to assist in daily HR transactions and processes.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a requirement.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills along with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are also required.

Additional Job Details

Job Duties May Include:
• working with supervisors to create job postings
• participate in search committees for all unit job searches (set up interviews, handle job offer letters, any follow-up to unsuccessful applicants, etc.)
• responsible for orientation/onboarding within assigned unit
• provides customer service to employees by answering employment requests and questions.
• provides assistance to supervisors for disciplinary matters using State of MD, USM and UMCES policies
• works closely with unit business office to align payroll actions and employment changes (hires/promotions/terminations/retirements)
• other HR duties as assigned.
