Position: Home Energy Specialist (Temporary) - Sustainability Department The City of South Portland is currently seeking applicants for a Temporary Home Energy Specialist to work in our Sustainability Department. This position is for the planning and implementation of the South Portland Home Energy Program. Hours will vary depending on time of year and need. Position Summary: March 1, 2026 -August 1, 2026: During this time period, the Home Energy Specialist will consult with the Sustainability Department for planning and developing the South Portland Home Energy Program and training. This will include: (1) Providing training to city staff and (2) Consulting on program development As-needed hours not to exceed 80 hours for this time period. September 1, 2026 - July 1, 2027: During this time period, the Home Energy Specialist will work with city staff to implement the South Portland Home Energy Program: (1) Training city staff on weatherization installation; (2) Homeowner education on weatherization and energy efficiency; (3) Installation of weatherization materials, including: window insulation spray foam, spray foam, rigid foam insulation, foam pipe insulation, exterior door weatherstripping, door sweeps, and fiber glass role insulation. Total hours not to exceed 200 for this period. Experience: Must have 10+ years of experience with: Residential remodeling, Energy efficiency programs, Weatherization installation, Home heating and cooling systems, Strong communication and interpersonal skills, familiarization with the City of South Portland and municipal operations, and in particular familiarity with municipal building codes. Ability to work a very flexible schedule. The hourly wage for the Home Energy Specialist position is $36.50/hour. Application materials will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.
