The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is hiring an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Expert to conduct assessments and develop management frameworks for the pharmaceutical value chain in the ECOWAS region. The role involves identifying environmental and social risks, stakeholder consultations, and delivering reports. Candidates need an advanced degree and at least seven years of relevant experience. The position is based in Maryland and is full-time.
Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Expert - Pharmaceutical Value Chain The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is seeking an expert to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and develop an Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) for the Africa Trade Competitiveness and Market Access (ATCMA) Programme's ECOWAS Component.
This assignment focuses on pharmaceutical value chains, including routine vaccines, antibiotics, and essential medicines, within the framework of sustainable industrial development and environmental and social safeguards.
The objective is to identify, assess, and translate environmental, social, and climate-related risks and opportunities associated with MSME participation in selected pharmaceutical value chains into actionable safeguard instruments.
The expert will work under the guidance of UNIDO Industrial Development Officers responsible for the ECOWAS Programme and will be expected to deliver a range of deliverables including an inception note, baseline analysis, legal framework review, risk and opportunity analysis, stakeholder consultations, and a final ESMF and ESIA report.
Required qualifications include an advanced degree in relevant fields and at least seven years of experience in conducting ESIAs and developing ESMFs, particularly in pharmaceutical manufacturing contexts.
The expert must also have experience working with MSMEs, familiarity with UNIDO's Environmental and Social Safeguards Policies and Procedures, and excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills in English.
