Environmental Scientist

Heritage Crystal-Clean LLC is seeking an Environmental Scientist in Hoffman Estates, IL. The role involves reviewing waste stream forms, assigning DOT shipping descriptions, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Purpose: The Environmental Scientist will review waste stream forms and assign DOT shipping descriptions, disposal methods and facilities, and waste approvals in the company database for the safe management and handling of waste streams transported by CC.

Duties of the position: The Environmental Scientist will provide professional support to the EHS Department by conducting waste reviews and interpreting DOT and RCRA regulations in conjunction with the requirements and restrictions of CC and all CC third party disposal facilities to review, approve, and assign DOT requirements to various waste streams for CC pick up. This position will also provide day to day support to the Company by providing guidance on many regulatory issues spanning the hazardous waste, used oil, various state regulations, occasionally Clean Water and Clean Air regulatory issues, SDS, DOT regulations, and all CC programs including reuse and solvent reclamation.

Essential Duties:
• Review and approve waste stream surveys
• Interface closely with disposal facilities
• Explain and answer regulatory questions from generators or HCC sales representatives regarding waste characterization and aspects of RCRA and DOT as they relate to waste streams
• Research, analyze, and interpret RCRA and DOT regulations for implementation of policies, procedures, or waste approvals
• Interface with internal and external customers and regulators regarding CC operations and various issues related to CC services

Work Experience
• 1-3 years relevant work experience required
• Working knowledge of RCRA and/or DOT a plus

Education, Certificates, Licenses, or Designations
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry preferred or related experience

Specific Skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Computer Use Competency
• CCMS knowledge a plus

Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works indoors or outdoors, and may be required to sit/stand for long periods. Individual will be required to regularly talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, and walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. This position will be required to travel by car or air to other CC locations or vendors regularly. Personal Protective Equipment will be required for specific situations while in the field. The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000-$79,000, and includes benefits such as the following:
