Cavvanba Consulting is looking for a field scientist based in Newcastle for our growing business. This represents a rare opportunity to join a small, employee-owned specialist environmental consultancy with offices in Newcastle and Byron Bay.

Cavvanba is a specialist contaminated land consultancy, with staff holding site contamination specialist (CEnvP SC) qualifications which are nationally recognised competencies, and an accredited auditor as part of the team.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• fieldwork including sampling of multiple medias - soil, groundwater, sediment and air, drilling oversight, and contractor oversight;

• completion of field notes, management of data and preparation of figures and analytical tables;

• supporting project managers with project scoping and fieldwork preparation;

• liaison with stakeholders including contractors, laboratories and clients.

• undertaking all works consistent with our safety values, systems and procedures; and

• preparing scientific and technical reports.

Requirements:

• a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering;

• 1 - 5 years of related professional experience within the contaminated land or environmental management industry;

• a strong interest in field-based project work and safety management;

• an interest in remote work;

• effective written and spoken communication skills and the aptitude to confidently liaise with project teams, regulators and clients representative;

• high standards of professional and personal ethics

• will have a knowledge of soils, geology and environmental chemistry; and

• the ability to think independently and work collaboratively.
