Job Description
Atlas Technical Consultants is seeking an experienced Environmental Operations Manager to lead and grow our Environmental Services practice in Burlington, NJ. This leadership role is responsible for technical excellence, operational performance, staff development, and business growth across a broad range of environmental consulting services.
The successful candidate will bring a balance of technical depth, people leadership, and business development capability, with a proven ability to manage complex client programs while developing high-performing teams and maintaining strong financial results.
Core Responsibilities
1) Operational & Technical Leadership
Direct and oversee the development, delivery, and performance of environmental services, including:Environmental Due Diligence (Phase I & II ESAs)Underground Storage Tank (UST) assessment, remediation, and closureEnvironmental site characterization, sampling, and remediation design/implementationEmergency response managementIndustrial wastewater, hazardous waste, oil pollution prevention, and air emissions permitting, planning, and complianceStormwater permitting and complianceIndustrial client environmental permitting and regulatory complianceIndustrial Hygiene service lines including asbestos, lead and indoor air quality surveysOther related environmental services as business needs evolveEnsure all work is performed in accordance with applicable environmental regulations, codes, standards, and Atlas policies and proceduresPerform or direct QA/QC reviews of reports, proposals, client communications, and regulatory submissions
2) Project & Financial Management
Manage or oversee environmental projects, ensuring:On-time and on-budget deliveryCompliance with contractual and technical requirementsMaintenance of project-level profitability and financial performancePrepare, review, and approve project proposals, cost estimates, scopes of work, and budgetsParticipate in branch budgeting, forecasting, backlog planning, and operational reportingUtilize strong project management, technical, and business acumen to achieve targets for revenue, margins, cash management, and client satisfaction
3) Business Development & Client Management
Drive business development activities to maintain backlog and achieve budget and growth goalsIdentify, develop, and sustain long-term relationships with commercial, industrial, municipal, and state/local clientsLead proposal development efforts and client presentationsCollaborate with other Atlas service lines and branch groups to identify synergies, cross-selling opportunities, and efficiencies
4) People Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, manage, and mentor environmental staff, including project managers, scientists, engineers, and technical personnelSupervise daily activities of project teams to ensure deliverables meet scope, schedule, quality, and budget expectationsManage employee performance through:Clear task assignments and expectationsOngoing coaching, mentoring, and feedbackSkill development and succession planningSupport recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and staff utilization efforts in coordination with branch leadership

Required / Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Industrial Hygiene, or a related fieldMinimum 15 years of directly related environmental consulting experienceDemonstrated experience in:Environmental due diligenceSite characterization and remediationRegulatory permitting and complianceIndustrial monitoring and compliance programsIndoor air quality and environmental risk managementStrong working knowledge of major environment
