Job Description
GAI Consultants is hiring an Environmental Manager to oversee environmental resources on energy projects, including field reviews and compliance monitoring. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, project management, and technical expertise. It includes 20% fieldwork and 80% office work, with travel expected up to 40%. The position offers hybrid or remote work options. A Bachelor's degree in a related field and relevant certifications are required.
GAI is seeking an Environmental Manager to join our team to build our business with sales, project management, and technical expertise. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Hybrid or remote arrangements will be considered.
The primary work responsibility will be to manage and provide technical services for environmental resources on energy projects including wetland field reviews, rare species surveys and monitoring, stormwater compliance monitoring, and environmental permitting. Technical report preparation and documentation, permitting, project management and coordination, scheduling, budgeting, invoicing, and quality control reviews are included in the job responsibilities.
This position will either manage such projects or work under the direction of a Project Manager. This position will also coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, assist in the delivery of projects from inception to completion, and ensure that they are delivered on time, on budget, and of high quality.
Job Duties:
• This role will include 20% field-based work and 80% office-based work.
• Provides technical services including environmental field studies for wetland and stream delineations, endangered species, and invasive species; sediment and erosion control planning; environmental permitting (local, state, and federal); and construction inspection and erosion control monitoring.
• Provides project or task management for all aspects of the project life cycle: planning, scope definition, execution, and delivery.
• Tracks progress toward milestones, budgetary guidelines, or other performance indicators.
• Selects, negotiates with, and oversees project activities of external subconsultants or vendors.
• Develops client relationships and supports business development activities to obtain new work, primarily from existing clients as directed.
• May supervise staff and provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to direct reports or task managers as appropriate.
• Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Weekly travel to varied job locations will be common. Overnight stays are likely. Travel is expected to be necessary throughout the year and will encounter yearly seasonal conditions typical to the Upper-Midwest region. Driving outside of daylight hours to be expected. Travel to work sites up to 40% but varies based on evolving client needs.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university.
• A current valid state-issued driver's license is required.
• Relevant professional license or certification in an applicable technical discipline is required (PE, PLS, PG, RLA, etc.)
• Preferred technical certifications include:
• 40-hour Hazardous Site Safety Training 29 CFR 1910.120
• Wetland Delineation Training Course
• Certified Soil Erosion Inspector
• Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
Travel Requirement
• 30-40%. It is anticipated that the frequency of travel will be greater during the growing season, and will likely average 35-40%. Travel nationally may be required.

Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences orâ¯similar field of study
Technical Responsibilities
• Continues to show progress in oversight and coordination ofâ¯project tasks; Available toâ¯junior staff for guidance; Provides opportunities to junior staff for becoming familiar with task management and financials; Working knowledge of project contract documents.
• Recruiting and retaining staff.
• Interpreting the strategy of top-level management and translating it into everyday policies.
• Developing and implementing day-to-day routines for a team, department, group, or division.
• Talent development: Develop Staff skills and empowering them as problem-solvers boosts innovation and productivity.
• Oversee learning, coaching, and career progression.
Project and Task Management
• Capable of managing project tasks.
Management Responsibility
• Begins to initiate and build client relationships; provide oversight and responsible for reviewing and approving all scopes; budgets; and schedules for all tasks of the overall projects; works with Task Managers to complete their assigned tasks; maintaining GAI’s procedures and protocols; responsible for all aspects ofâ¯financials on projects.
• Serves as the leader of the environmental scope of project; receives administrative support and direction from Business Sector Leaders and higher-level officials of the Company.
• Continues to manage staff with diverse skills and has a focus on supporting career path and technical growth.
• Monitoring employee performance.
• Making sure that processes and procedures are in compliance with the overall organization’s guidelines.
• Inspiring and encouraging employees to perform their best.
• Assigning and supervising specific work tasks.
• Allocating resources within a team, department, group, or division.
• Reporting issues and performance to top-level management.
• Well-being fostering: Prioritizing mental health, work-life integration and enhances retention.
• Manager shapes day-to-day workplace experiences.
Communication Skills
• Begins to routinely interact with clients, customers, government officials, contractors, and others; leadsâ¯project meetings andâ¯presentations; possess marketing and sales skills; represents Company in a positive light; interacts with Task Managers and Business Sector Leaders onâ¯a regular basis; attends meetings with higher-level officials of the company onâ¯project status including financials.
